TIC TAC TOE

Tic Tac Toe is one of the oldest games out there and very useful in the English classroom.

It's easy to play, and most Japanese students already know this game by the name "Maru Batsu" game. However, instead of  writing Os and Xs on a 3x3 grid, the players take turns placing their cards on the grid.

DECIDING THE TARGET LANGUAGE

1. Only the Topic names:   Read a book! etc.

2. The teacher decides:  For example: Are you ____ing ____?

SET UP  

1. Download the Tic Tac Toe sheet from the download page.

2. Place the Tic Tac Toe sheets on the table.

3. Give player 1 five orange cards, player 2 five green cards. (see picture below)

＊️ Laminating the sheets will make them more durable, but if you can't, using A4 clear files from a 100 yen shop, is a cheap and fast alternative.

HOW TO PLAY  

1. Play "Janken" (rock, scissors, paper) to decide who starts.

2. The winner (player 1) places one card on the grid and uses the TL for that card.

3. Next, the players take turns placing their cards using the TL, until one of them has three cards in a row. (horizontal, vertical or diagonal)

The player who has  three in a row first, wins the game.
